| Due Wednesday, February 4, 2009: Cogitate on and arrive at an answer for the following question: If the poem "so much depends" by William Carlos Williams were to be three pages of prose intead of this poem in its current form, would that be ironic, and, if so, why? Due Tuesday, February 10, 2009: Write and type in MLA format a draft of an essay in response to this poem explication essay assignment sheet. There is no need to turn your essay in via turnitin.com just yet. Due Thursday, February 12, 2009: Submit your essay to turnitin.com by 1 AM (Wednesday night/Thursday morning) and bring to class an MLA hard copy. Due Thursday, February 19, 2009: ESSAY OPPORTUNITY for those who did not follow through with this last essay as prescribed: In order to turn the zero into a grade, you must write two essays. You must fully explicate two of the poems on the assignment sheet, not just one. Both essays must follow the same previous rules. Submit them to turnitin.com and bring to class MLA hard-copies no later than Thursday, February 19, 2009 at 3 PM. The prompts at turnitin.com will be "Poetry Explication L" and "Poetry Explication M". Your grade will be based on an average of the two scores. Due Friday, February 20, 2009: Bring to class both Pride and Prejudice and Frankenstein. Homework points will be allotted. Due Monday, February 23, 2009: Complete, with your assigned partner, the entire "Poetry Overview" and set of 76 vocabulary game-cards that was discussed in class. We will play as many of the vocabulary games in class as we can. Due Wednesday, February 25, 2009: Study the Literary Terms Cheat Sheet in preparation for Wednesday's vocabulary exam. It will consist of matching, but don't let that info lead to complacency. There are some tricky words. Due Thursday, February 26, 2009: Have with you Pride and Prejudice and Frankenstein (even if already checked). There will be another book-check. Everyone will earn points. |
Due Friday, February 27, 2009: Hone your poetry explication skills in preparation for an in-class timed write. (Re-read the Chapter 4 poetry packet, including the sample essays). You will get your recent essays back beforehand so that you may improve your score. Also, have with you Pride and Prejudice and Frankenstein (even if already checked). There will be another book-check. Everyone who has his/her books will earn points. Due Monday, March 2, 2009: Read the introduction and the first ten chapters (they are VERY short) of Pride and Prejudice. Random students will be grilled Socratic style (and/or there will be another method by which I test your having read), so please be prepared. Due Tuesday, March 3, 2009: Make sure to get a fee-reduction form from the student store (if the terms apply to you) so that you may benefit from $5 AP exams. No matter your personal fee, bring to class the appropriate money (or check). Mr. Bertram will be in class on Tuesday to register students for exams -- all of your AP exams at once, if you wish. Also, read through Chapter 16 of Pride and Prejudice. Due Wednesday, March 4, 2009: Read through Chapter 28 of Pride and Prejudice. Due Thursday, March 5, 2009: Read through Chapter 42 (end of Volume II) of Pride and Prejudice. Due Monday, March 9, 2009: Finish reading Pride and Prejudice. Due Thursday. March 12, 2009: Complete today's Webstacle Course and E-mail me the link to your survey, and... Complete the 24-frame storyboard that retells the entire story of Pride and Prejudice. If you outline it first, it will be easier. This is considered class work, so no late assignments will be accepted. NOTE: Per class policy, if you have been absent, you MUST either e-mail me or come to see me after school to find out what you missed, otherwise you will not be given any make-up work or extra time, and your incompletes will turn to zeroes. I do not have the time or brain space sufficient to stop in the middle of class and consider your particular situation and assign appropriate make-up work and/or new deadlines, etc. Thank you for your understanding.
