| For Thursday, March 6, 2008: ELA and ELD 4: Prepare for Thursday's quiz by studying the practice exams and by taking online grammar quizzes, especially those on sentence types. Also, complete at least two submissions (one submission and one revision) of your Memorable Childhood Event essay on MyAccess. Make sure that your essay is at least 700 words, and that you submit it by 9PM. For Sunday, March 23, 2008: ELA and ELD 4: As is stated on your novel assignment sheet, submit your literary response and analysis essay to MyAccess by Sunday night at 9 PM. For Friday, March 28, 2008: ELA and ELD 4: Revise your Literary Response and Analysis essay so that it: 1) Follows the prescribed outline; 2) Is at least 700 words; 3) Scores at least a 5.6; and 4) Contains absolutely NO plagiarism. Not a single phrase may be from an online essay site OR from the book jacket OR from your Aunt Anna. The suggested 7-paragraph outline is: 1) Intro with title, author, genre and theme; 2) Summary or description of the text; 3) Analysis of a literary device (see menu) 4) Analysis of another literary device; 5) Analysis of yet another literary device; 6) Relate the text to your life, to another text or to the world 7) Conclusion, which restates the introduction Make sure to submit your revision(s) by 7 PM. For Wednesday, April 2, 2008: ELA and ELD 4: Be prepared for the exam on your novel, which will be administered in class on Wednesday. (THE DATE WAS ADJUSTED). Whatever novel was in the gradebook on Monday, March 17, will be the novel for which you will take this comprehensive exam. In the meantime, and in preparation for the exam, read the whole novel, and complete at least one Reader's Companion hand-out to help you comprehend it. For Monday, April 7, 2008: ELD 1-2: Complete Friday's class assignment. For Wednesday, April 9, 2008: ELA and ELD 4: study the practice exams in preparation for a standards-based final exam. For Thursday, April 10, 2008: ELD 1-2: Complete all of this week's parts of speech activities. ELA and ELD 4: Complete the connotations exercise, the verb conjugation drills and all past participle hand-outs. All will be put into your portfolios along with a self-evaluation. |

Also, finish your If I Were President essay. For Thursday, February 7. 2008: ELA and ELD 4: Have a novel from the approved list. For Friday, February 8 and every day thereafter, 2008: ELA and ELD 4: Have a novel from the approved list. For Friday, February 15, 2008: ELA and ELD 4: Prepare for Friday's 40-question exam by perusing the practice exams and by taking practice grammar quizzes online. For Monday, February 18, 2008: Submit to My Access at least one persuasive essay. Choose one of the following persuasive assignments: - Adding a particular class to the school's curriculum - Teen parenthood - Afterschool job Complete at least one draft by Monday, February 18 at 5 PM. To otherwise keep abreast of current obligations, see the assignment sheet. For Friday, February 22, 2008: Complete reading the first half of your chosen novel in preparation for today's mid-novel exam, which will be on the first half of the novel. Use the Reader's Companion to help you process the information. Perhaps use one Reader's Companion per chapter. If you have already read the entire book, then you may choose to take the final novel exam for extra points. You may also then choose another novel from the list to read in class and at home. This semester, you will be required to read and take exams for at least three novels whose pages together total at least 600 pages. For Wednesday, February 27, 2008: ELD 1-2: Finish crafting your conversation. Use both pictures and words, and include in your conversation money, time and fractions. |
