| Ms. Kittelson 2009-2010 Effort Grade (Also Known as "Class Participation") Students, your grade for effort is based on how much time you spend in the Magma Layer. For example, if you are asked to read silently but your eyes are jutting around the room, then I will know that you are in the topsoil layer, and I will give you zero points for effort. If you are assigned to write in your journal but you are instead daydreaming (you will try to claim that you are thinking, but I won't accept that because during journal writing you are directed to think with your pencil), I will know that you are on the brink of the sedimentary rock layer and NOT in the magma layer, and I will give you points accordingly. Your body language gives you away. I can tell when you are in the topsoil layer, the sedimentary rock layer, the metamorphic rock layer and the magma layer. You cannot easily fool me. Your effort grade depends on your ability to venture into and remain in the magma layer, which is the layer where I believe all significant learning happens. |
