| Due Wednesday, October 29, 2008: Complete the To be or not to be translation activity, and complete this self-evaluation form. Bring both to class. Also bring to class your copy of Hamlet. Due Thursday, October 30, 2008: Complete ten or more questions of your Hamlet exam so that you will absolutely finish creating the 75-question exam by the end of Thursday's class. (The original 30 questions from Act I along with your 45 questions from Acts II-V.) Due Friday, October 31, 2008: Type or otherwise beautify (with graphics, et al) your 27 bullet points that capture the definition and essence of "Tragedy." Due Monday, November 3, 2008: Bring to class a copy of MacB*th that you can read and annotate. Due Tuesday, November 4, 2008: Write a 250-word summary of MacB*th's Act I. Also, be sure to bring your own copy of MacB*th. As you read and summarize, cogitate on the questions that have been so far posed in class: 1) How does the plot of MacB*th compare to a game of chess? 2) What is the role of the witches? Be specific. 3) What is the gender of the witches, and how does/do their gender(s) affect their role(s)? 4) How does gender factor into the overall play? 5) How does "strategy" balance with "morality"? 6) Who murders whom and why? 7) What was Shakespeare's purpose in writing the play? 8) What are the central themes of the play? 9) If you were to direct the play, how might you approach it? Due Wednesday, November 5, 2008: Write a 250-word summary of MacB*th's Act II. Due Thursday, November 6, 2008: Rewrite the first three scenes of MacB*th at GHS in modern times. Make a cast list (partial cast list for Act I OK) and rewrite the scenes as though they are happening now. Make sure to cast your scenes appropriately, taking into consideration the various social hierarchies that are at play, both in the play and at GHS, and to give your characters strong and distinct voices. Don't translate the text line by line; instead write the scenes in a modern setting with a modern vernacular, deomonstrating an understanding of the interpersonal dynamics and basic plot. |
As an alternative to placing MacB*th at GHS, you may set it at the White House. The same rules apply. Due Friday, November 7, 2008: Complete and submit at least one newsletter entry by the END of class on Friday. Submit your entry either by e-mail or by placing a hard-copy in the submissions folder. You may also be asked to rewrite more of MacB*th, so check back soon and often. Due Wednesday, November 12, 2008: Please bring your logo to class on Wednesday. Please e-mail to me at any point during the long weekend any and all additional newsletter submissions. |
